Speakers Schedule
THE COSTS OF LINCOLN'S WAR
The Sons of Confederate Veterans bring Christmas greetings and ask you to make plans to attend our 2012 Stephen Dill Lee Institute in beautiful and historic Savannah, Georgia, on February 3-4 at the spectacular DeSoto Hilton Hotel. Registration to the Institute for SCV members and family is $125 per person. Non-SCV members are $150. Registration includes 3 meals on Saturday February 4 including breakfast, lunch and a banquet.
We are pleased to announce that the Francis S. Bartow Camp #93 of Savannah, Georgia, will host the annual Meet the Speakers Party beginning at 7pm on Friday, February 3 at the hotel. This event should give our attendees a chance to mingle with our speakers in an informal atmosphere. As a special treat, local historian and Savannah attorney David A. Dickey will speak on a topic which in 2012 is the subject of much political and historical revisionism, William Tecumsah Sherman. Mr. Dickey has titled his lecture "The Devil Comes to Georgia: William Tecumsah Sherman". Mr. Dickey is an avid history buff and well known Georgia historian and speaker. Please dont miss Mr. Dickey. He is well worth hearing.
You can register for the hotel online here.
We are pleased to announce our speakers for the Institute:
Jonathan White: "Calculating the Value of the Union: Physical costs of the War to Prevent Southern Independence"
Ronald Kennedy: "Liberty: The Price of Federal Supremacy"
David Aiken: "Lincoln's Blood Money and the financial impact of the war"
Donald Livingston: "How Lincoln's War derailed Constitutional Liberty"
Douglas Bostick: "Colored Troops for Work: The Union Army's Assessment and Use of Black Troops"
Michael Scruggs: "Advent of the Federal financial system"
Anyone who has ever attended a Stephen Dill Lee Institute meeting has come away with a newfound understanding of American history. Please mark your calendar for February 3-4. 2012, and join us in Savannah.
